Comparative Genomics and Pangenome Analysis Service

Pan-genome, core-genome and phylogenomic comparison.

Comparative genomics puts your strain in context. By comparing it with related genomes, we find the genes all strains share (the core genome), the genes only some have (the accessory genome) and the genes unique to yours.

Those unique genes often explain what makes a strain different, such as a new resistance gene, an extra metabolic pathway or a probiotic trait.

What you receive

  • Pangenome summary: core, accessory and unique gene counts
  • Gene presence/absence matrix
  • Phylogenomic tree based on the core genome
  • Strain-specific genes with their annotations
  • Interpretation of the differences that matter for your study

How we do it

  1. 1

    Genome set

We assemble your genomes and select public reference genomes.

  2. 2

    Consistent annotation

All genomes are annotated the same way so genes can be compared fairly.

  3. 3

    Gene clustering

Genes are grouped into families across all genomes to build the pangenome.

  4. 4

    Phylogeny

A tree is built from the core genome alignment.

  5. 5

    Interpretation

We highlight unique and differentially present genes.

When you need it

  • Explaining why one strain behaves differently from another
  • Placing a new isolate within its species
  • Tracking related isolates in surveillance studies

Questions

How many genomes do I need?

You can compare your strain with public genomes even if you sequenced only one. More genomes give a more reliable picture of the core and accessory genome.
